- Past Chair of the Community Practitioners’ and Health Visitors’ Association (CPHVA)
- Fellow and former vice-chair of the Queen’s Nursing Institute
- Professorial Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health
- Honorary Fellow of the Irish Institute of Community Health Nursing.
Awards
- 2008: King’s College London Supervisory Excellence Award, having supervised more than 20 doctoral students to completion.
- 2012: Lifetime achievement award from the CPHVA
- 2012: Created Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE) for services to health visiting
